I-GAS Industrial Gas Accreditation Scheme (I-GAS)

The CEA’s Industrial Gas Operations Accreditation Scheme (I-GAS) is the only formal training and accreditation pathway designed specifically for industrial gas maintenance staff and technicians. It was created in collaboration with training providers, combustion equipment manufacturers, and employers.

Who it’s for:
New entrants with little to no gas experience.

What it allows:
Awareness only. Does not permit any gas system work.

2-day course (theory + industrial examples)
90-minute open-book MCQ exam

Safe Isolation of Gas Assets (ISO)

Purpose:
Introduces the principles of safely isolating gas assets, covering legislation, HSE guidance, gas/electrical standards, and isolation procedures.

Objective:
Give candidates the confidence to apply safe isolation practices in real industrial settings.

Who it’s for:
Operatives working directly on industrial gas pipework.

What they’ll be able to do:

Repair gas-carrying components
Break into gas ways safely
Replace pipework components
Strength test & tightness test
Purge to air, recommission, and relight equipment

Course details:

5-day course (theory + practical)
Open-book written exam
Practical assessment

Topics covered:

Regulations & Unsafe Situations
Gas Supply Networks
Fuel gas characteristics
Installation pipework practices
Testing & purging procedures

Who it’s for:
Operatives working on combustion equipment and industrial burners.

What they’ll be able to do:

Maintain and repair combustion equipment
Test and purge gas lines
Replace gas-carrying components
Commission and recommission combustion systems
Install new combustion equipment
Perform combustion analysis & emissions checks
Set pressure regulators

5-day course (theory + practical)
